Hello lovely people! Welcome to another installment of Sounds of a Story, a place where I share new original music and the stories and memories that inspire it.

We sit in the back of the beat up Jeep wrangler, the doors and the top off, the wind whipping through our hair. On our right, we pass lush green canopies of trees. On our left, the ocean. We are driving to the airport.

For the past four months, there have been eight of us living in a 2 bedroom apartment, while we live and work by the coast. We all work in the same bar waiting tables and spend our nights on the beach across the road, floating home to get enough sleep before work the next day. We go on adventures, swim in secluded beaches, sleep on the beach at nighttime and watch the moon set as the sun rises, as only you can in this place.

As the Summer comes to an end, we all drift home, everyone making the same journey to the airport in that old cream Jeep. Now there are just two of us left, my best friend Una and I and it is our turn to go home, We have to return to our lives before this Summer. We are going into our final year of university and have squeezed every last minute out of our time here, before there is absolutely no time left. With us we bring all the stories that we will reminisce over forever.

Since that time, we have had numerous coastal adventures, filling our lives with memories that are so entwined with each other, that sometimes I’m not sure where I start and she ends! Memories, some of which are best shared around a kitchen table, with all our people, the remnants of a meal eaten together, wine and water glasses at varying levels, chairs pushed back and so much laughter.

Of all the places that I have been, the coast is the place. The place I crave daily, a craving made all the more visceral while I live so far from it now. Some day, I will live by the coast again and until then I will be satisfied with all the memories that inspire me to create worlds of sound.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear from you. Of all the places you’ve been, where is the place for you? Who have you shared the memories with?
